Though he attempts to help, he realizes he is unprepared to battle the evil being. After fleeing the violent scene, Father Randall meets a seemingly ordinary young man named Daniel Floore, who offers his assistance. When the priest reluctantly agrees, he is shocked to witness Daniel speaking to the demonic creature in an unearthly language. Daniel successfully expels the spirit without calling on God, but disappears before Father Randall can question him, leaving the priest to ponder the young man's existence and his own faith. Shortly thereafter, Daniel becomes acquainted with and transforms the lives of three young women-Kara, a young woman who relishes her youth; Jade, a girl in an abusive relationship who is seeking spiritual guidance; and Marianne, a woman with a violent history who is being hunted by a satanic cult. As the mystery of Daniel Floore's identity is revealed, the fate of Father Randall, Kara, Jade, and Marianne become intertwined. Their connection leads them to a fierce showdown with forces that are evil beyond anything they could ever have imagined.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This story is the outcome of the author’s enthusiasm for a great English Puritan scholar, author and theologian, an outstanding man of Cromwell’s day, Richard Baxter. Ordained in 1683, Baxter became minister at Kidderminster in 1641, the scene of the action in this book. Mr. Baxter was Chaplain to Cromwell’s army for two years. He also learned what suffering and persecution meant and was imprisoned for eighteen months at one time, without succumbing to panthophobia. Many are the Christians who have been blessed and sustained by his Saints’ Everlasting Rest; also convicted by his Call to the Unconverted. This is reading based squarely on historical personages and facts. Its main theme—Baxter’s falling in love and marriage—is fact. Parts of his famous addresses are quoted. The author’s personal research on the subject, subsequent to the writing of the manuscript and in preparation for some lecture work, confirmed that many of the incidents related, as well as the main theme, have factual basis. The attempted murder in the churchyard, for instance, was paralleled by a similar deed committed by a drunkard who had been subjected to certain church discipline. Those who appreciate “meat” with their “cake” in their fictional repast will find this a book to their liking, and so we shall leave it to speak for itself! You might wish to tell the publishers how you like it; if so, do it by all means.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arnold Toynbee once wrote of what he called "the overwhelming sense of sin that pervades human history." In this anthology of short fiction, underground cult novelist H. A. Covington explores the darkest realms of the supernatural and of the human heart. Cold Earth is a laconically unamazed tale of murder and ghostly retribution from beyond the grave, told in the powerful yet simple words of a Norse saga. Old Asgrim tells of a brutal soldier of Oliver Cromwell who made a bargain with the Devil. In Mick The Cutler, a young man tries to save the woman he loves from a terrible evil that only he can see. A genteel private school is haunted by a century-old crime in The Wheelbarrow. In Whisper Her Name On The Wind a young woman risks all to save the people of her village from massacre, and learns that no good deed ever goes unpunished. In Bringing Mary Home, a murderer finds not only the law but a vengeance-seeking I.R.A. gunman on his trail. The Stranger is an ancient immortal wizard who battles a cult and the demon they summon for the life and soul of a young girl. In The Madman and Marina, a 1930s secret policeman in the Soviet Union finds forgiveness and redemption for a terrible betrayal. Other Voices, Darker Rooms is a must-read for everyone who reads before bedtime and doesn't care whether or not they sleep when they turn out the light.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For nearly half a century, Jared Carter has been quietly mapping the American heartland. Line by line, his poetry has shown us the landscape, sounded the voices, conjured the music, and tested the silence of the ever-changing and yet ever-constant Midwest that figures so prominently in the American story. And yet what we find in Carter’s poetry is endlessly new. Here, in poems selected from his first five books, is the summer-long buzz of the cicada and the crack of the cue ball, the young rebel on his big Harley, and the YMCA secretary who backstrokes her way across the indoor pool. Here, too, are thirty new poems in fixed form that illustrate Carter’s continued quest for a poetry of “universal interest.” Taken together, these selections are, truly, poetry in the American grain.

Book excerpt: A modern-day Detroit success story that fuels the entrepreneurial fire Irrational Persistence tells the story of Garden Fresh Gourmet, and how two entrepreneurs turned a million-dollar debt to a 100-million-dollar annual revenue. Woody Allen famously said that 80 percent of success is just showing up; but any entrepreneur can tell you that it's the other 20 percent that's key. The founders of Garden Fresh took that old saying to heart, building so many strategic advantages into their products and business that their 'sales' team didn't have to do any selling—they simply had to show up. In this book, you'll find out what kind of legwork goes into building a mega-success product, and the strategies, methods, and just plain stubbornness that helped two guys from Detroit build a market leader. Garden Fresh Gourmet is now the number-one fresh salsa in the US, shipping over a million units every week to Costco, Walmart, Whole Foods, and other national chains—and it all began with two middle-aged guys with negative funds and plenty of ideas. This book shares their journey, insight, and passion to help you build a better business and take it to the top. Learn how two entrepreneurs went from major debt to major revenue Discover the key characteristics of a product that sells itself Consider why selling out might not be the ultimate goal Track a journey of 'irrational persistence' from rags to riches Garden Fresh Gourmet is an inspiration beyond the journey—the way you run things at the top matters, too. Irrational Persistence shows you how to make the tough decisions, live with the sacrifices, and prioritize your values as you build your brand and just keep on going.

Download or read book Relations in Architecture PDF or another Format written by August Sarnitz and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2020-05-05 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The title of the book sets the two fields of activity pursued by the architect, architectural historian and theorist August Sarnitz – building and writing – in a reciprocal relation: the context to what has been built emerges in the process of writing, just as the context to what has been written emerges in the process of building. The structure of the book follows precisely this reciprocity: an essay about architectural history and Big Data is followed by three on the topics of urban development, social housing, and the fiction of space. A number of influential Viennese architects appear as well: Frank, Kiesler, Hollein and Prix. The topics of housing, design and furniture are all illustrated with Sarnitz’s own projects; the end of the book is dedicated to architectural photography, which is especially important to Sarnitz in his capacity as publicist. The richly illustrated book is the first to document Sarnitz’s work as author, designer, exhibition designer, architect and photographer.
